New book by University of Brighton professor tackles the "postdigital" future of education

As the rapid evolution of AI and digital technology continues to transform education, a new book offers insight into how to adapt in a "postdigital" reality.

Understanding Postdigital Education, by Michael Jopling, Professor of Education at the Unversity of Brighton, explores how educational systems are struggling to keep pace with a world where technology is no longer an "extra," but is inextricably entangled in our daily lives.

The book examines the evolution of these changes over the last 25 years and challenges the traditional view that technology should simply be "integrated" into the classroom. Instead, Professor Jopling argues that we must fundamentally rethink how learning is approached in an age where digital technologies have already reshaped how young people gather information and interact with the world.

Professor Jopling said: “One of the most pressing issues we face in all areas of education is the tendency of technology implementation to embed and even amplify existing disadvantages, rather than address or reducethem.

“This book brings together evidence from postdigital theory and practice to explore how education can be rewired to reflect and benefit from technological change, rather than merely replicating and perpetuatingexisting ways of working.”

The book has already received significant praise for its critical depth. Jeremy Knox from the University of Oxford described the work as a "vital resource," while Petar Jandri膰 of Zagreb University of Applied Sciences called it a "tour de force of postdigital scholarship" that offers indispensable solutions for the future of education.

This publication follows Professor Jopling’s recent high-profile contributions to the national debate on education reform, including his calls for a more radical overhaul of the national curriculum and high-stakes testing to better prepare young people for the 21st century.
